Blitz chess in Budapest 3

Blitz gets fewer dates than rapid in Budapest, but they recur. The steadiest one is at Grund64, the chess room on Bíró Lajos utca in Józsefváros, whose amateur Wednesday-evening schnell is played on the first Wednesday of every month at five minutes a side without increment. The Grund64 name also carries two FIDE-rated blitz events, the Grund64 Blitz and an end-of-year blitz.

The Kállai Gábor Blitz Memorial honours the Hungarian grandmaster and trainer with a rated blitz each spring. The Budapest federation revived its open blitz championship of the capital in August 2026, with the games played at the Hungarian Chess Federation’s building on Falk Miksa utca.
